Thanks for the list. We all know of books/authors who seem to more "fair" or "even-handed" than others. We all know that everyone has bias. Instead of arguing with those of pro-South leanings, perhaps simply responding with something like "No authors are completely unbiased, but the ones who seem give the most even-handed treatment are...."
This will sound mean, but this board is heavily pro-Southern, and most of the contributors could care less what you think unless it agrees with waht they think. You will be argued with and even called names if you try to argue with them...so just answering the questions, sort of how I indicated above, will result in better, less inflamed discussions.
Just speaking form experience.
I like your list. I see a couple that look interesting enough to try to get via inter-library loan!
