I pay no genealogist, I do it all myself by spending hours and hours in the library and on line with sites like the Mormon Church. Also reviewing books other family genealogist have written. Diaries, letters and family Bibles when I can get them. Interviewing elder family relatives. Every now and then you find a horse thief or deserter or worse a galvanized yankee. But then I find letters they have written home during the war, every war, and I find a diary of their personal thoughts and their belief in their faith of God,county and family and it makes its all worth while. I just hope and pray I get the opportunity to talk to them all somewhere, someday.
It is a very revealing hobby, by knowing where we come from, we can better determine where we are headed, who we are and why we are..
I don't know any family genealogist who pays anyone. Copeies. Film strips, census records, traval. Film and devoloping - yes.
