Steve, if it was a plantation store, then might those ledgers also include credit (mainly) and debit references to purchases made by black folk employed and probably living on the surrounding acreage? If so, you may have a real treasure trove of useful data from the early part of this century documenting differences in prices paid, cash vs. credit transactions, goods sold by race of the purchaser assuming race was somehow recorded on those same pages, otherwise some census work might be needed to decipher the ledger data into race specific data. I hope you have plans on who or what institution to donate those ledgers to for historical preservation purposes.
