Re: Confederate Musuem
In Response To: Re: Confederate Musuem ()

First allow me to correct my spelling of the word Museum in my original post. Sorry I transposed a letter.

I have had the good fortune to visit the Confederate Museum in Richmond on two different occasions and I was awed at the authentic relics that are housed in the museum. At the time I was there Stonewall Jackson's uniform which he was wearing at the time he was shot was on display. The blood stains were clearly visible, as well as a few of the original flags of various Confederate States and military units.

I don't believe that there has ever been sufficient space in the museum to adequately display their holdings. Now the expansion of the Virginia Medical Campus has made it virtually impossible to find the museum much less find a parking spot.

I believe that present plans call for the articles now held in the Confederate Museum be distributed to various Civil War Federal Parks that currently exist. I don't know how politically correct the displays would have to be before they could be displayed in the Federal Parks.

An ideal project would be for the Son's of the Confederate Veterans, Daughters of the Confederate Veterans and other Southern Heritage Organizations to combine their talents and fund raising ability to acquire property and construct a sufficiently large venue so that all of the Confederate Museum holdings could be properly displayed.

If the King family can raise the 100 million plus dollars to build a memorial to Martin Luther on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. why could not an all out effort of those interested in the preservation of our Southern Heritage be successful? I feel positive that whatever site was selected for such a museum would be financially supported by both the city and the state that was finally selected.

Naturally there would have to be leadership exerted by some organization for this goal to be reached in the lifetime of we older members of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

Why can't Southerners also "Have a Dream"? A journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step", who will take the first step? If someone will lead, others will follow.
