Getting these "groups" to combine anything would be a major undertaking, given the dramatic changes within the "Southern Heritage" sect the past few years.
Here in Texas there was a howl raised when the Confederate Research Center & Museum at the Hill College (in Hillsboro) changed it's collection some time back. Some believed it was/should have been a shrine to the Confederacy, but were disappointed by the change to a more broader spectrum, including all Texas Veterans in it's displays.
We have the Texas Civil War Museum here in Ft. Worth, with the collection of the Texas UDC division's artifacts, with Mr. Richy's (sp?) Civil War Collection of both Confederate, AND Yank artifacts. It's not the proverbial "Shrine" some folk are looking for, but so what, it's great to have in our area. You have got to see what they offer there!
Everyone wants a shrine to the Confederacy...figuring out WHO will pay for it, and who runs it, how will the displays be made up, will be the problem. The SCV seems to be intent on buying land for giant flagpoles to fly HUGE Confederate Battle Flags, than they are interested in how to bring Confederate collections together.
It’s all about priorities.
