Re: The Congressional Debate - March 1865

Alan, I did read them, I think I just sorted them out in my brain wrong. I've been giving another area in Florida and a different era more attention and that may have led to my inattention. :) Hubby's family is about as complicated and mixed up as mine.

I did not remember reading where it was legal to sell free people into slavery for debt. For some reason, I thought that was done away with years before this incident. Like when the indentures ran out in Georgia. I guess I need to pay attention. Told that to a Kindergarten kid today and he said he was trying but the sun outside was "mixing him up". He wanted recess. Then I saw the wonderful exhibit the 4th grade 'gifted' class had on immigration. One set up was amazing, til I read they came through Ellis Island in 1854. The teacher didn't look too happy when I told him, away from the students, there may be a type-o with the date. Guess I'm in trouble again.

There were indeed some really wild times in the Sunshine State. It was more like the Wild West. I promise, I'll go back and try to see where I got side tracked.

Pam
