My father was drafted and sent to Europe in 1943, so I understand. Some of my Civil War ancestors were conscripts. One was captured during the attack on Cemetery Ridge on July 2, 1863, and sent to Elmira NY. He survived the war and moved from south Alabama to south Tennessee. His first son (my grgrandfather), born in 1857, was named Robert Lee King.
How do you measure loyalty? Let each man speak for himself.
We would be uncomfortable if only black people spoke for Confederate veterans. I suspect black people are uncomfortable with stories told about them, mostly by whites. Plenty of accounts by former slaves are on record. Why not quote them?
