Blacks don't talk about their confederate ancestor because they are told those ancestors were traitors and dunces for helping those who would keep them in slavery. That is one of the reasons that the whites have to tell their story. A few are beginning to realize that heritage and are members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. But even they today are harrassed by the popular culture of today. One black member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, who had been the president of the local chapter of the NAACP, march across the south a few years back from North Carolina to Texas in a reproduction confederate Uniform and carring the Battleflag to raise awareness, it was the blacks along the way, who threaten him the most.
