My Mom saw a man and some little children come into the room through the center of a flower on the curtain. In the daylight she didn't seem to notice them but at night, it was a full blown parade. Though she had a couple of conditions diagnosed, dementia being the worst in the end, she put her thoughts together well enough to tell me "just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there." Of course the next sentence was my cousin was in the closet waiting for a cup of coffee. Go fix him some. I'd fix it and then drink it. She didn't notice the difference, just the empty cup. Sort of difficult to argue over a cup of coffee when you look at the bigger picture.
When my GGGrandfather was in his last days, he kept yelling "the Yanks, they've got my toes". Of course it could well have been due to the small vein problem that's a genetic mess in the family but then I read about one Commandant at Ft Delaware hanging prisoners by their thumbs. He was at Ft Delaware. Wonder what else he saw?
