From your post, "Oklahoma Sherriff Edward R. Young from Coosa County served in the 18th Alabama with his six brothers and later in Wheeler's Cavalry."
Wyeth gives the origin of one company as Gadsden, the county seat {at that time} of Cherokee County.
I had already reviewed Harrison B. Young's service record but withheld comment. He was a conscript from Coosa County, taken to Camp Watts Aug. 10, 1862, and remained there until at least September 1864. Records of the 14th Alabama are very complete and provide no evidence that he ever served with that regiment.
Oklahoma Sherriff Edward R. Young from Coosa County, Ala., must have been a teller of tall tales and a very entertaining man.
