Re: Testimony of Charles Gibbons

What we conclude after much reading and discussion from different sources is probably not at all what we are 'expected' to believe. We may not always agree on interpretation or the angle of the topic but at least we have not buried it and left the 'textbooks = gospel' as the only source for those who come behind us.

Last night I was turning over some stuff in my head and (yes, you may want to run far away) it hit me that in today's world, Creole probably has only one definition and it's wrong. One reading of a Creole Militia may well think it was all black. The history lessons themselves are not being taught so how can the students understand the meaning of the terms?

I doubt many high school seniors today have a clue what's so special about the Evangeline Oak or where the Erie Canal is. We not only learned those things in our English classes but also Music. I told our new music teacher (he's interning this year) that he may be our last best hope to teach American History. Through the folk music and on, if there's a tune, you get the kids attention.
