Thx George, I did run the name as Marten but with no luck. I did find a desirous record for John Martin and it said he was born in Ireland and was in Company C 8th...............and was captured on July 4, 1863. But ended there. 8th what? LOL There were many Confederate regiments at Gettysburg with the regimental number 8. Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Virginia come to mind. It's difficult to tell at this stage. The Fort Delaware clerks could have made a mistake or the soldier in question could have intentionally given false information for a number of reasons. I've checked the 8th Confederate regiment although they were not at Gettysburg but rather I believe may have been involved in the Tullahoma Campaign but not sure as of yet. Anyway thanks for checking.
