From the book "History of Williamsburg", 1928, by
William Boddie. about Williamsburg District (County) S.C. I have the loan of it from a man from
that area that is of the Pressley family. On page 406
in the chapter of 1864 there is a long article on the
awful losses of the county. Including the following;

"Colonel James F. Pressley, who had been acting as
Brigader General for more then a year, was severely
wounded at Atlanta".

I knew I had heard something like that somewhere, but still do not understand this as Manigualt had the brigade except for 2 weeks at Xmas in '63 while the army was at Dalton, he returned and had it again until wounded out of the war at Franklin end of Nov 64. If Pressley was really an acting B/G for a year until summer of '64, what was he the B/G of?
