Lee and Charles:

I'm not sure which one of you is most interested in M.P. Kelley. The 18 year old Pink Kelley who joined the company in 1862 was my gg-grandfather. He had transfered from the Flat Rock Guards which had formed in Kershaw Co., SC. I think that was a short-lived unit, but Pink transfered before its demise.

Our family stories always stated that he married Eliza while on furlough, but it's interesting to see that his service records reflect that. He was on furlough again near the end of the war--he returned to the Camden area at the same time Sherman was head quarter at the Kelley house. Instead, of going home, Pink became one of the snipers who was plaguing the union in that area.

Have seen his name variously spelled as Mansel and Mancel. Kelley is occasionally misspelled as Kelly. He removed from S.C. to Texas in 1892. Settled first around Mt. Pleasant. Later the Kelley's removed to Oklahoma. Eliza later returned to the Mt. Pleasant area where she had a sister living.

Please contact me by email since I'm not on this list.
