The South Carolina in the Civil War Message Board

Re: B/Gen. A.M. Manigault question

After posting my message I had second thoughts about it. As it was based upon the statement of a S.C. author in a local history book in 1923. It may well have been that Pressley was acting brigade commander when Manigault went home for Xmas for two weeks in Dec. 1863. This may have caused a rumor to be raised in later years that he was acting B/Gen for a year when he was wounded out of the war in July 1863.

Agreed that many exaggerated their roles in the war in later years. Yesterday I was engaged in helping probably expose the record of a man who died in 1912 after a career of high positions in the civilian world. He allowed friends to spread the word he was a Colonel on the staff of Gen. McClellan. This appeared in his obit.

No record NPS site , my paid HDS site, state of Maine records, never joined the GAR, nothing nowhere...
