My ancestor, Private Simeon Peter Johnson, was a member of Company B "Brockman Guards" 13 SCV. He volunteered December 21, 1861 and was enlisted on January 4, 1862. He was wounded in the mouth by a Min'e ball (probably at Spotsylvania) and in the hospital in Richmond on May 15, 1864. He was wounded in the legs at the battle of Deep Bottom, Va, July 28, 1864 and captured. He was in several Union hospitals until sent to Elmira, NY in March of 1865. He applied to take the oath on May 31, 1865 but wasn't released until July 3, 1865. He also had two brothers who were in the same company. Elbert P. Johnson, was a 3rd Sgt. He died from disease in Camp at Richmond, Va, July, 1862. Tolliver R. Johnson, who I believe was also at Elmira Prison and released about the same time. Family ledgend says that they walked home on canes and crutches. Simeon lived until April 10, 1915. He resided in the Greer area of Greenville, SC.
