In Response To: South Carolina Medical College ()

In response to a message in 2007 that I just saw about my grgr grandfather, Robert C. Bethea,M.D. [1st Sgt/2nd Lt. Co. E 7th Regt. Miss. Inf.] in regard to his Confederate service. I appreciate, your interest in Hampton's Legion and your belief that the R.C. Bethea you have found in that unit is my Grandpa Bethea; however, he was never a captain in any Mississippi unit and did not leave the state after his discharge in May of 1862. At least his wife and children and grandchildren and all of his brothers and cousins in SC never mentioned it. If you have proof that he was a captain anywhere or that he served in Hampton's Legion, please produce it so I can add it to my family history. His six brother's all served in SC units; one KIA at Weldon's RR. Also his diploma that I have says that he did in fact graduate in 1858 from "The Medical College of Charleston" . Please contact me via email or on the Mississippi Board if you have any official records to confirm his captaincy or his involvement with Hampton's Legion.
