I read your message and posted one in return to verify your message. The 5th Tennessee was involved in a lot of history. Two of my family were in the battle of Shiloh. One was KIA and buried there and his brother was later KIA on a troop train accident near Rienzi, MS. Reports tell me that Venable, 5th, stopped the retreat of the survivors of the Union forces at the Hornets Nest and they assisted in the capture of 2000 prisoners in the first day of the the
assault. Yes, they were a good unit, I agree with you.
