More information relating to my earlier posting.
I just got this today from my 102 year old cousin's daughter:
"As I understand his version of events the day the Wasp sank, he and his crew used a large rope to lower themselves into the water and
swim away. There were portions of the ship on fire but not the fantail area where they escaped."
Also, "Of the 189 men he was in charge of, Herron lost 10" from the local newspaper article regarding the donation of the
uniforms to the local museum.
