It appears High is in central Arkansas when Little Rock fell and everything just fell apart. It was a bad time for the CSA soldiers and supporters.
Having read some about Price's raid, if High made this and survived, he was young and tough. He was running for his life at the end making it back to Arkansas.
My g-g-g grandfather's brother was on this raid to Missouri as a Lt. to Gen Price. His name was Lt. Frederick Price who was born in the Spartanburg District of South Carolina but moved to Arkansas while very young. My own ancestor, Lt. Fielding Price, died in the Yankee Prison in Little Rock on Feb. 1, 1865 for attempting to provide aid after they returned to Arkansas.
Being down around Lake Chicot means he was probably fighting the mosquiteos a lot. That would not have been an easy place to camp out.
You may want to post in Arkansas and put on it, Attn. Bryan. He is one of the men in the know in the Arkansas site.
A lot of Texas guys got sick and died in Arkansas. I am sorry but at this time, I just cannot recall who the majority were with. There is a huge cemetery in central Arkansas that is full of mostly Texas men in northwestern Lonoke County about twenty miles out of Little Rock.
Just because he made it only as far east as Arkansas does not mean he did not take part in some battles nor that he had it easy.
A lot of that which happened in Arkansas has not been documented properly are my thoughts on the subject.
