That is the man. The story itself is 18 pages long.

David keeps refering to going on a "scout", which led me to believe he was a scout for the most part.

David was a substitute for Dr. JC Smith at first, and was paid $20 a month, and furnished a horse, rifle and outfit.

David went on to live in Trent, Taylor County. David's wife was run over by a train in 1901.
