Re: Lt. Rogers, from Texas
In Response To: Lt. Rogers, from Texas ()

Agreed, Second Lieutenant William T. Rogers, was with Company A, 27th Texas Cavalry Regiment also known as the 1st Texas Legion. It was part of Ross' Texas Brigade along with the 3rd, 6th and 9th Texas Cavalry. The brigade entered Georgia from Alabama and went to Rome, Georgia. It was then pushed toward Atlanta as part of Johnston's Army. They were skirmishing with Sherman's troops most of the way, and then stopped several raids around Atlanta, but were not enough to completely halt the Union advance. I am in the process of reading about this part of the war, in several books. I have not seen the mention of the church but have seen word on the battles around Red Oak. I will find more and add to this effort. The Sixth TX Cav, is my baby, so I only have some battle history and a muster list of the 27th. Will see what else I can find
