Jerry, I agree. Company D was a strong part of the 6th, but Company B, was John Griffith's Militia Company (He made BG in Texas), Col Jack Wharton (He goverened Louisiana as a military command)came from Company E, Maj White (a hero)from Company H was also based on a Ranger Milita, Ranger Captain Lawrence Sullivan was a private(made BG) & Peter Ross (made Col) came from Company G. And don't forget the Lancaster Guards from Dallas County. Capt Throckmorton a future governor like Sul Ross came from Company K (a Ranger Company straight out of the Indian Territories. Company I was a skirmisher/sharpshooter company and Lieutenant Colonel Bridges it's captain came from Dallas, Rockwall area. As I get into the 6th and the Texas Brigade I wish I could have been there. My GGF Robert Arhur Nolan was in K and then I. His brother James Tyre Nolan joined D but then transferred to K after Elkhorn/Pea Ridge. They both were transferred to Company I, when the Infantry Brigade commander BG Phifer wanted a Sharpshooter Battalion. He started it with Company I of the 6th TX Cavalry Regiment and Company H of the 9th TX Cavalry Regiment. Both RGTS had been dismounted for the Corinth Campaign. CPT Bridges was a Maj then LTC in the summer of 62. He made his LTC on 1 Aug 1862 when his Bn was attached to Col Ras Stirman's Arkansas Sharpshooter Regiment. Some said Stirman only had a Battalion, but he had 10 Companies and that put him at Regimental strength. At Corinth they were on Phifer's left as an Infantry Rgt according to Cozzin's book. A better deployment would have been across the whole brigade front, but I guess they felt they needed Infantry. Don't mean to get on a soap box, but I do love the 6th. I would appreciate any Info I can get on any soldier of the 6th. It will eventially go to the 6th site and .....maybe a Texas Brigade site or maybe both. Right now its the 6th. All help appreciated. Please send soldier/unit data to oldgoat36@hctc.net or if you think the board would like it place it there.
