These soldiers were mustered out of the Texas State Troops at Camp Reeves, Grayson County, Texas on the 14th of October, 1861, when they were mustered into Col. W.B. Since your Thomas Davis Williams was an officer in Bourland's Regt, it is probable that he was an officer before he came to Bourland's Regt. In fact, I cannot think of a single officer in Bourland's Regt who were not officers in a military unit before joining Bourland's Regt. Also, your T.D. Williams lived in Col. James Bourland's old neighborhood in Ladonia, Fann-Hunt Co TX where he had many relatives and friends and probably knew Bourland quite well.

Meanwhile, I think we should identify these men "T. Williams" entries, esp. the "T.C. Williams" and "Thomas C. Williams."
.
Keep in mind that some of these guys were anxious to sign up for the Southern cause or to just be adventuresome. ..Maybe this T.C. Williams (maybe b-1839, age 21) who signed up in May 1861 even though he had "no arms" then probably signed up again in July 1861 as "Thomas C. Williams". We will not know for sure until we find his records or locate his descendants.

Post Script: I will spend the rest of my life identifying the 39,905 entries in my 146-page Name Index (about 20,000 soldiers, many soldiers have multiple entries) because I think this endeavor will be, and is, a major contribution to Texas and Oklahoma histories. For the rest of my life (I am age 65) I spend all day, every day, developing the outline of my 1,046-page book that is seventy percent (70 %) from hand written records.
