Interesting. My GGF, Jesse Knighten DuBose of Hunt Co. TX was 1st Sergeant of Co. K of Bourland's Regt. in 1864-65 in the Indian Territory and N. TX.

As you're probably familiar with the Pea Ridge area, the remains of the Union entrenchments are preserved in a small, separate section of the Park, about 1.5 miles SW of the entrance and south of US-62 on the old Telegraph Road on the Little Sugar Creek branch.

Also, in the Park, near the picnic grounds, is a historical marker on a portion of the original Telegraph Road, which previous to the invention of the telegraph was also the main route for traffic from St. Louis to Fort Smith. The marker describes the Trail of Tears and discusses the Cherokee Tribes that came through that area...some camping overnight on the grounds of Elkhorn Tavern...in the 1830s.
