Ms. Womack, The 9th Texas Cavalry was written about by their adjutant who did almost a daily diary. From many librarys you can obtain a copy of Fighting With Ross' Texas Cavalry Brigade, CSA, the Diary of George L Griscom, Adjutant of the 9th Texas Cavalry Regiment, Hillsborugh Press, Hill JC, 1976. Another book written by Stephen Kirk is available from Him, A Thousand Texans, Men of the 9th Texas Cavalry Regiment. This book is stories and detail about the men. It has a little History, but Mr. Kirk has tried to get information on every soldier. Just google Stephen Kirk and the 9th Texas Cavalry. This book cost about $23.95 plus shipping. You can also go to my website for all that I have been able to get on this regiment and the three others that fought in front of Sherman all the way to Atlanta. They did their best to inflict the 35 to 45 thousand casulties that Sherman incurred. They then led Hood's Army into Tennessee and covered the rear as they retreated. General Forrest called on the Ross' Brigade time and again. Each of these thousand men regimments had been reduced from 1000 to less than 200 men by wars end. I am trying to find if it's last Commander DudleyW. Jones, who died in Houston before he was 30 was buried in Houston or was interred in his home town.
