Re: Geer; son-in-law __ Allen; Red River County

Private Benton Gear (9th. Regt. TX Cav.) is noted on the following list as receiving a 60 day furlough dated December 23, 1862 in the "Personal Papers of John Estell, 33, Miss, Inft."

"A list of the names of Soldiers to whom certificates for a leave of absence have been given by the Medical Board of Examiners, approved by the Surgeon of the Post and granted by the Commandant of the Post of Jackson, Mississippi."

Although Benton Gear's CMSR indicates he was noted on a roster of patients in the Texas General Hospital in Quitman, this entry was later cancelled in said roster.

Additional information not found in the "Personal Papers of John Estell, 33, Miss, Inft."
