Thank you for the info. Grimes was certainly a fascinating fellow. I do know that a book has been written about him but is somewhat difficult to locate.

Heres another name when you get time. E.H.Cushing. Cushing was owner and editor of the Houston Daily Telegraph. He operated a private mail express business in the latter period of the war delivering mail to and from the Trans-Mississippi and the Eastern Confederacy. The crossing point was near Evergreen,Louisiana over to Woodville,Mississippi near that tangled jungle where the Red River joins the Mississippi. The Confederate Government also used this route. Admiral Raphael Semmes crossed the river here returning to the Confederacy from Europe via Mexico,Brownsville,Shreveport and Alexandria.
