Thanks for the info. The route is what i had assumed, and I think that CR 2938 and FM 1861 are pretty well still on the track of the road south of the State Park. Is that what you are referring to, or is there another segment in that area? Big Rock was in Van Zandt County, roughly at the intersection of FM 1861 and CR 2908. There was a water powered mill there as early as 1848. I am intrigued that there are still pilings from the ferry landing and presume that they must have imported cypress. I might see if there are any similar remnants of the Lollars bridge over the Neches, as the modern highway bridge was built a couple of hundred yards downstream from the original crossing.
