Wes, done some research on Wirt Adams and he had been the Adjutant of Burleson's Texas Cavalry Reg. in 1839. So it may have been that your kin had served under him before in Texas. From what I read his command was made up of companies from Alabama,Louisiana, and few Texas groups. So what you found could be possible. Hope this helps some.
