Carol,

This should be your James Joseph West as a Ranger. You really need copies of all records for James to see just what is going on here.

J. J. West (First_Last)
Regiment Name 1 Regiment Cavalry, Texas State Troops
Side Confederate
Company C
Soldier's Rank_In -
Soldier's Rank_Out -
Alternate Name
Notes
Film Number M227 roll 39

This "D" Tumlinson may be "P" Tumlinson and just copied wrong from the old records.

D. Tumlinson (First_Last)
Regiment Name 1 Regiment Cavalry, Texas State Troops
Side Confederate
Company F
Soldier's Rank_In -
Soldier's Rank_Out -
Alternate Name
Notes
Film Number M227 roll 37

It may be that the family took 1st Texas Cavalry (State Troops) for (Hoods) 1st Texas Infantry and just made a simple mistake on his early war unit.

I hope this is of some help,

Gary D. Bray
