When the 16th Michigan took prisoners during the Battle of Malvern Hill many of the Johnnies in this fight mixed whiskey and gun powder in their canteens. They said their officers mixed this to keep them away from water. Union captors said the rebs fought with a desperate determination. Has anyone heard of this before? Gene
