Do a little research on Camp Douglas in Rock Island, Illinois. The death rate there was 72%. Southern soldiers that were sent to the outskirts of Chicago at Camp Douglas were basically given a death sentence. Starve or freeze. Little option. You see Lincoln was made aware late in the war that Northern soldiers that were paroled or exchanged usually went home. Southern soldiers with little or no home to return to went back to the lines. Lincoln stiffened prison conditions for our Soouthern heroes and denied them any food and medicine. Gotta love that Lincoln. He was such a great President. Keeping this Union together and all.
