.. Most likely your ancestor is interred at Oakwood Cemetery.

Oakwood was closer and most of the battlefield dead of the Seven Days campaign were buried there.. Also this came to serve the hospitals in the Eastern area of the city (including Chimboroazo). Hollywood basicly served the hospitals that were in the Central and Western parts of the city.

There was a period in 1862 whereas the lack of manpower resulted in less than favorable conditions at Oakwood.. ie: didnt have enough people to bury the dead quickly enough... So some were shifted and sent to Hollywood instead for awhile... till things improved then they resumed.

Hollywood was and still is a privately owned cemetery. Most of the burial records are intact. I confered with Chris Ferguson when he was working on his book since many knew I had done lots of research and restoration work in the soldiers section of Hollywood in past years. There have been several generations of publications and online postings of the list of the dead buried there. Ferguson brought it up to date and more information included and corrected.

Oakwood unfortunately is another matter. The City of Richmond has it. Records are fragmented and some are damaged and very difficult to obtain anything of them. The State archives has a film copy of them if they can be read at all. In the past decade several different pockets of various heritage based organizations have taken turns trying to obtain ownership, stewardship or permissions to do work in there to little avail of any significant progress. The more recent attempt group reportedly has copies of all the records but apparently has adopted the desire to keep it all to themselves. It has not been posted nor published. The whole topic and having to deal with the modern City Government who could care less about a confederate burial plot, this all has been wallering in a political quagmire for decades. As far as local history and confederate burials Oakwood has always been the "black-hole" vaccuum of records due to same.

As Keith mentioned the Hollywood Pyramid was constructed post war on one of the burial sections. There is no one buried inside of it.
