I have three brothers, one being my 2nd great grandfather , who fought with F Co, 26th Regiment Georgia Infantry directly under the command of Ezell's Division at the battle of Sharpsburg, MD . The soldier in question is Private John M Johnson whose records show that he was wounded at Sharpsburg 17 Sep 1862 and died in a Staunton VA hospital 1862. The name of the hospital was not recorded.
Were there any other confederate hospitals used in Staunton, VA at that time and does anyone know if Western State Hospital in Staunton was used during the war to treat wounded soldiers. The reason I ask is that in the Western State Hospital Cemetery records, they list a John M Johnson, plot 7 grave site 65. No other information given. I did a search on the Find A Grave site and turned up nothing at Thornrose Cemetery. Also were there other cemeteries in Staunton who received these confederate soldiers?
Thanks,
David Johnson
