Use the search feature of this board to find a fair amount of info on this unit. Search on "16th Confederate", "12th Mississippi", and "12th Alabama and Mississippi". If you have trouble finding it, or you want more info, post again. I have done quite a bit of research on this unit.

As far as I can tell, none of the companies were Alabama militia, but there were a number of Alabama companies. If you have more info regarding this, I be very interested in hearing it.

The regiment was split into at least two groups near the end of the war, and only part was at Blakely. My current theory is that the unit was split between Alabama and Mississippi units to comply with Forrest's Feb. 1865 orders to arrange his brigades by State.

Also, search on the Mississippi board, as there has been a fair amount of discussion there, especially as regards the flags of the 12th.
