Thank you all for contributing to this thread. I enjoyed finding the newspaper item and transcribing it for the board, and in particular, for Mr. Carter. Appreciate Mr. Elmore's valuable input, and for putting me on the track of Marion Wilson. Perhaps Mr. Elmore summed it up best when he noted:
"This "trivia pursuit" is important as it emphasizes the disorganization of the regiment during this hard fought battle, implied by the mixing of companies I and D."
