Re: Chilton Co. unit?

Blythe's Mississippi Infantry Battalion was also (later and better) known as the 44th Mississippi Infantry Regiment, and take care not to get confused with the various State Troop units commanded by Green L. Blythe of Desoto County, Miss. (i.e. First Battalion Cavalry Minute Men, First Regiment Cavalry State Troops, 2nd Regiment Mississippi Partisan Rangers, and Major Blythe's Battalion of State Troops of 1864-65). Its easy to get these Blythe units confused when you start looking at the records.

The Autagua company was still a part of the battalion when it was increased to regiment size (before Shiloh, even though the O.R.'s still *may* refer to it as Blythe's Miss. Battalion). It is unclear at what point that it was renamed as the 44th. The Autauga company was transferred to the 24th Ala. Inf. and assigned as Company K.
