Re: J.P. and J.R. Cox, Co. G, 40TH Ala. Inf. Regt.

Thanks for your information.
Jordan Perry Cox and John R. Cox were brothers.
Sons of Hirum Cox of Jefferson County (1850 census).
We know that Jordan survived the war, since our Greatgrandmother was born in 1873. Also we have a copy of an Alabama pension application filed by his wife, Martha C. Cox, after he died in 1909.
We have copies of their CSA service records we obtained in Atlanta last summer, including a copy of the Paroles they signed, dated July 9, 1863.
Some of the microfilm records are difficult to read.
The muster roll for the period July to Dec. 1863 for John R. Cox has a notations "Died on the way from Vicksburg about July 25, 1863" We know that his wife, Sarah Ann Parsons Cox claimed his last pay on Feb 15, 1864 as noted on a Register form concerning "Claims of deceased Officers and Soldiers..."
We are wondering where John died and might be buried?
Susan
