Susan, unfortunantly I probably have no more info on George W. Cox than you do or less. My info comes from the Compiled Service Records and various muster rolls. They show that George W. Cox enlisted 04 February 1863 as a private in Company C of the 40TH Ala. Inf. Regt. at Sumter County, Ala. by Lt. Monnett. He was discharged on a surgeon's certificate 14 April 1863 and he is listed as never having been paid. This info is per muster roll for 30 April 1863.

As to the place of death and gravesite of John R. Cox, I have no information. If he died on 25 July 1863, he was not on duty with the army, but on furlough.

I have a William Cox listed born in Clarke County, age 33 in 1862, that enlisted in Co. E of the 40TH at Choctaw County. Any relation?

Henry
