Alfred Barksdale Cox, 11th AL
and
James M. (Monroe, or Marion) Cox
are older brothers of our GreatGreatgrandmother
Martha Caroline Cox
all children of George A. Cox and Matilda Denton
George and Matilda were married in Jefferson Co. in 1835
The family was living in Yalobusha County MS in 1850 census
and moved to Pickens County in 1855
George A. Cox died in 1897 and is buried in Blue Creek Cemetery in South West Jefferson County.
We believe Maltilda died in Pickens county, June 1860?
but we have no confirmation
We have recently located Alfred's tombstone in the lower Pickensville County Cemetery.

Martha Caroline Cox married Jordan Perry Cox about 1861
The family bible indicates their first three children were born in Pickens County - they later lived and died in Jefferson County and are buried at the Adger Cemetery.
Jordan and his brother John R. Cox served in Co. G, 40th AL.
their father was Hirum Cox of Jefferson County.

We believe that Hirum and George were cousins,
We believe that Hirum's parents were John and Sarah Cox of SC, but we have been unable to locate George's parents in SC.
These Cox families are related to Cox families in Blount County and St. Clair Cox that came to AL from SC in the 1830's.

Some of the other Cox families in Pickens county appear to be related to Cox families from Clark and Mobile Counties that came as early as 1820.
