Keep in mind that Captain Gurley served in Russell's Regiment, not Roddey's.

I know next to nothing about uniforms, but reasonably detailed descriptions of Army of Tennessee uniforms may be found in Col. Fremantle's book. He reviewed Alabama mounted troops as well as infantry in the Shelbyville-Tullahoma-Wartrace area during June of 1863. Patterson's 5th Alabama Cavalry Regiment was on station at Chapel Hill, Tennessee, up to that time. Their appearance was likely identical to that of Roddey's 4th.

Also keep in mind that Roddey's soldiers were not usually stationed near regular quartermaster stations. For that reason, very few clothing receipts are found in service records of members. The expection was the period from January through March of 1864, when part of Roddey's command was assigned to duty with the Army of Tennessee around Dalton Ga. There are quite a number of clothing issues from that time. I'm sure the average member was quite ragged by December 1863/January 1864.
