The 4th AL that Gurley was part of was from the Huntsville area, less than 100 miles from the place where Roddey's came from here in Franklin and Lauderdale Counties. I had considered that the 2 commands may have been similarly equipped, even if only at the time they were created. That may not be the case as the war progressed and logistics and opportunity for re-supply became a factor. I believe I saw a copy of the book you mention in a local Booksamillion. I'll check it out this weekend. The inspection that found "the clothing of men were neat and uniform", took place on April 2, 1863, of Col.Roddey's and Patterson's regiments, by Lt. Col. Grenfell. They may not have had much wear on what uniform they were wearing, but as you stated, they may have been wearing thin by Jan. 1864. I'm trying to determine what type of uniform they started out with. --Charles
