Re: 4th AL Cav. Co.E(Roddey's)
In Response To: Re: 4th AL Cav. Co.E(Roddey's) ()

I appreciate the time each respondant took in trying to answer my question. Roddey's 4th does indeed seem hard to research. There are only a few events(small skirmishes) in which my unit portrays Roddey's men. In most situations, we do a generic impression of a trooper under Forrest. I take special pride, and feel a greater obligation, to representing Alabamians as accurately as possible in historical interpretation. At this point, I'm leaning toward several "uniform" jackets to represent various stages of the war. I am still undecided on the time at, and right after, mustering in of Companies E and F. For later on in the war, I'll use either a Columbus or Atlanta Depot(based upon the realization that that Depot operated out of Nashville prior to the occupation of that city by union troops in early 1862 when it was moved to Atlanta), and at other times a reproduction of a private purchase jacket patterned after that in the Kentucky Military History Museum of Waller Overton, who served with Forrest and A.R. Johnson. It's my hope that the later jacket represents many of the private purchase jackets that were used. I will continue researching Roddey's 4th, and will not hesitate to update and improve my impression based upon the best available information. I would love to be 100% sure that I'm identically outfitted as they were, but the variables are many. I hope, at least, that I'm real close. Thanks to all, -Charles Hill...in Franklin Co.
