The railroad back in 1861 ran through Livingston from Meridian to McDowell on the Tombigbee River. McDowell is across the river from Demopolis close to where the campground is at the Lock & Dam now. The old bridge across the swamps is mostly gone now. It ended at the river and a barge took railroad cars across it on a ferry to McDowell. I bet that was a wild trip of 200 yards. Some of the old railroad bed is still there today but only in a "cut" through the rocks and land.
