Re: Camp Buckner Talladega Conscript Camp

"I noted he was at the Camp of Instruction in Talladega, where he received payment in January 19, 1864 . . . . He was later captured at Monocacy"

Where did you find this intelligence, in the two files I find him, there is no reference to such payment nor capture at Monocacy. I might note that July 10 and Monocacy is a fit.

He was paid while in hospital at Howard's Grove, Va. on the basis of his statement under oath that he served for the period Dec. 24, 1863 through February 29, 1864. There is no record of such service. Why he didn't also ask for payment from his reported enlistment date in the 12th, April 14, 1864 up till June 22, 1864 is strange. I'm at a loss to explain.

Personally appeared before me, a Capt. & A. Q. M.
W. M. Funderburg, Co. D, 12th Reg't Ala. Vols., and made oath that he is without descriptive roll or final statement, which it is impossible to obtain from his commanding officer, for the reason that his company is now -BLANK- that the above account, amounting to Twenty four .56 Dollars is correct; that he is not in debt to the Confederate States, and that he will present a statement of this payment to his commanding officer.
