Re: Amos Chaffin, Moreland's Reg Co E

David --

From its organization in 1863 until the end of the war, Moreland's cavalry served under P D Roddey's command. Roddey's cavalry served independently or under Forrest's command for most of that period.

Amos Jeremiah Chaffin (Dec 7 1842 - June 21, 1913) had brothers Abner and Andrew who served in Co F 26th (50th) Alabama Regiment. Abner was born in Habesham County GA. In 1860 the family residence is reported as Pikeville, western Marion County AL. Father Elias Chaffin gave his occupation as Missionary Baptist minister. Moreland's Cavalry was involved in the fighting at Athens AL, Sept 24-25, 1864, during Forrest's raid on Athens, Suphur Springs and Pulaski TN.

This man may have a Texas pension application. He is buried in Greathouse Cemetery, Bell County TX.
