I descend from an Amos Chaffin who reportedly came from Georgia, but sojourned at the home of William and Peggy Derrick, whose family was decimated by the war. Amos and two other soldiers eventually married the widowed daughters in that household.

It is reported that my Amos died in 1870 and is buried in north Cullman County, AL.

there are so many Amos's, Abner's, etc., it's difficult keeping them separated.
