The following are the receipts for weapons by company for the Fifth Alabama Infantry Regiment. All are dated around May 13th, 1861. In general they are for "muskets, smooth bored" each with cartridge boxes and belts.

Note that Company K, the "Alabama State Artillery" commanded by Captain William H. Horner, is not listed. They were detatched from the regiment by order of General Bragg, at the end of May 1861. The rest of the regiment moved on to Virginia. On June 17, 1861, a new Company K, the "Barbour Greys" commanded by Captain Eugene Blackford, joined the regiment. Unfortunately, I have no specific details on their weapons, but I would guess that they had smooth bore 1842's as well.
