From the Compiled Service Records of th 5th Alabama Infantry regiment:

Bryant, M. C., Co. K, Private. He was enlisted in Company K on May 15, 1861, at Clayton, Alabama, by Captain Eugene Blackford. He appears on the Company Muster Rolls for 1861 listed as “Present”. He appears on a Report of Sick and Wounded of the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment, for January 1862, while stationed at Davis Ford, Virginia. He was listed as suffering from Pneumonia and was discharged from the Army on January 9, 1862. His discharge papers state that he was born in Barbour County, Alabama, was 27 years of age, 6’0” tall, with a dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair. He received back pay of $63.66 on February 7, 1862.
